Gladys May Vander Ploeg, 97, formerly of Prairie City died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at her daughter’s home in Texas. Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 3, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Prairie City United Methodist Church, with burial following at Waveland Cemetery.
The family will greet friends on Saturday at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.

The daughter of Chester and Nancy (Brewer) Hunt, Gladys was born on November 16, 1912, in Swan, Iowa. She graduated from Swan High School. On February 24, 1937, Gladys was united in marriage to Harold Joshua Vander Ploeg. Gladys worked at the Lucas State Office Building in Des Moines for over 30 years. Gladys and Harold enjoyed square dancing, golf, visiting with friends and relatives, quilting, flower gardening, ceramics and painting. Her proudest moment was hitting a hole in one in her golf league.
Those left to honor her memory are her children, Ronald Dale (Arleen) Vander Ploeg of Prairie City and Sharon Kay (Robert) Nuzum of Forney, Texas; two grandchildren, Alan Dale (Merri Kae) Vander Ploeg of Stafford, Virginia and Tela Michele (Robert Lynn) Brunson Williams of Brandon, Florida; six great grandchildren, Kyle Christian Brunson, Tyler Joshua Brunson, Kayla Michele Brunson, Ryan Robert Williams, Dylan Ray Vander Ploeg, and Wendy Marie Vander Ploeg and a brother, Robert Hunt of Pryor, Oklahoma. Preceding Gladys in death were her parents, husband, two sisters, Mary Jolly and Helen Rozenberg and three brothers, Bion Hunt, Lawrence Hunt and Russell Hunt.
