Prill, Duane D. – 1931-2010

Duane D. Prill, 79, passed away June 1, 2010, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
He was born on May 3, 1931, in Carroll County, Iowa, to Herman and Hazel (Parsons) Prill. The family resided in Glidden, Iowa, where Duane graduated from high school. Duane attended Drake University and was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. In 1951, Duane married Sheryl Fisher, also of Glidden, and to this union two sons were born, Scott Douglas and Mark Charles Prill. Duane worked for Prill stores until 1960, when he joined the State of Iowa, Department of Banking. Duane became an officer of the Crocker Citizen’s Bank of San Francisco in January of 1965.
From there he went to Britt as President of the Britt Bank. He remained there until 1970 when he became president of First Newton National Bank in Newton. During this time, he and a partner acquired banks and served on boards in Fayette, Walker, Newton, Center Point, Algona, Glidden and Pleasantville. Duane became an active officer of the Pleasantville State Bank in 1969 while serving the Newton National Bank. Duane and his family moved to Pleasantville in 1975 during Duane’s tenure as president of the Pleasantville State Bank.
During the course of these events, Duane was a board member and treasurer and was instrumental in the development of the Britt Country Club. He was a member of the Rotary, the Des Moines Club and many other civic endeavors. Duane served on the Board of Arthritics and the Okoboji Protective Association. In 1972, Duane and Sheryl built a home on West Lake Okoboji and he and his family enjoyed many summers there.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Bonnie Berns. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Sheryl; sons, Scott (Marcie) and Mark (Deb); five grandchildren, Jeff, Emily and Christy, all of Milwaukee, and Wes and Matt of Pleasantville; and a host of other family members and friends.
Visitation took place on Sunday, June 6, at Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn’s Chapel. A funeral service took place on June 7 at Central Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, followed by a luncheon at The Park Center in Des Moines. Burial was at Merle Hay Cemetery, Glidden, Iowa, where Duane will be the fourth generation of paternal Prills and maternal Parsons.
