Mrs. Margaret Winters
Margaret Agnes Higgins, daughter of David and Ellen Scanlon Higgins, was born in County Cork, Ireland, May 12, 1879. She passed away March 24, 1949 at St. Thomas Mercy hospital in Marshalltown. Funeral services in charge of the Caldwell-McIlhon-Brien funeral directors were conducted at 9 o’clock Monday morning, March 28, at All Saints church in Des Moines. Burial was in Glendale Catholic Cemetery in Des Moines.
Deceased was the next to the oldest of 10 children. When she was three years old her parents came to the United States and moved to Boone where she spent her childhood and most of her mature years.
January 8, 1891, she was married to D. S. Winters. He died in Oklahoma about 1897. Mrs. Winters moved from Boone and made her home in Des Moines for 26 years before coming to Baxter three years ago to live with her daughter, Mrs. Mae Kettenhofen.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Kettenhofen; two sisters, Mrs. H. M. (Charlotte) Mulcahy and Miss Elizabeth Higgins of Des Moines, and several nieces and nephews. ~ The Baxter New Era, Baxter, Iowa, Wednesday, April 6, 1949
