Services Conducted for Mrs. Letha Jontz

Mrs. Letha Jontz passed away Saturday at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown of a malignancy. She had been in failing health for the past six months.

Much of Life in Jasper County

Letha May Jontz was born September 11, 1892, on a farm five miles south of Newton. She was the daughter of Ed and Sylvania Wilcox. She attended Gifford rural school and was graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in 1916. After her graduation, she taught for seven years in Jasper County Rural Schools.

She married William Jontz June 19, 1918, in Newton. After the marriage the couple lived on a farm near Baxter until 11930, when Mr. Jontz died. Mrs. Jontz then lived at Baxter three years, and moved back to the farm until 1950. Since then she had visited with the children in California and in the Baxter community.

In early life she was a member of the Palo Alto United Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday school. She was secretary and treasurer of the Sunday school and worked for and with the Young Peoples Union.

Survivors

Survivors include two sons, Clyde and Charles Jontz, both of Baxter; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Roberta) Noe, San Francisco, Calif.; a brother, Willis Wilcox, Newton; a sister, Nina Wilcox, Spirit Lake, and four grandchildren.

A prayer service was held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home and church services were conducted at 2 p.m. in the Congregational Church of which the deceased was a member. The Rev. Harry E. Boughey, pastor of the church, officiated and was assisted by the Rev. Frank L. Davies, pastor of the First Friends church in Marshalltown. Gerald Robinson and Charles Korte sang with Mrs. George Allspach Jr. as organist. Flower committee was Mesdames Henry Holzapfel, Frank Wilcox and Hale H. Nickell.

Burial was in Restland Cemetery at Baxter. Pallbearers were Hugh Jontz, Bert Jontz, Elmer Jontz, Virgil Jontz, Harry Pyle and Loren Pyle. The Boyd-Nickell funeral directors were in charge of arrangements. ~ The Baxter New Era, Baxter, Iowa, Wednesday, April 8, 1959.
