John G. Dake, 80, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away at his home May 17, 2010. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St., followed by burial at Boone Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Boone, Iowa. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
John was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Des Moines. He served in the U.S. Air Force. John worked for Firestone for 45 years and was a member of the Local UAW Teamsters Union.
John is survived by his children, Debra (Scott) Huyser of Newton, Iowa, John G. (Margaret) Dake Jr. of Wautoma, Wis, Gracia (Richard) Ge Meiner of Mitchellville, Iowa, and Leonard (Linda) Dake of Fond du Lac, Wis.; (per se adopted) son Brett Phipps of Indianola, Iowa. Former wife, Josephine Bennett; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Leon (Elaine) Dake, Tom (Linda) Dake and James Dake; sister, Judy (Ron) Ellsbury; many, nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

John was born August 21, 1929 in Coon Rapids, Iowa to Leonard Woodcock and Stella Irene (Lyons) Dake. He enjoyed building ships out of matchsticks, putting together model cars and wooden covered wagons.
