Marjorie Lucille Griffin, 88, passed away Friday, May 7, 2010, at Park Centre in Newton, where she had resided for the past eight years. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 13, at Iles Funeral Homes — Grandview Park Chapel with burial at Hartford Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at Hartford Presbyterian Church.
Margie was born April 24, 1922, on the family farm in rural Carlisle to George and Minnie Wade. She grew up there with her two sisters, Iva and Helen, and graduated from Indianola High School. On Jan. 1, 1943, she started the year right by marrying the love of her life, John Thomas “Tom” Griffin. They lived in the Hartford area most of their married years until retirement when they moved to Mission, Texas. Margie was a wonderful wife, mom and grandma. Her infectious laugh will be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Newton and a 50-year Eastern Star member.
Margie is survived by her sons, Bill (Susan) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Pat (Deb) of Belgrade, Mont.; her daughters, Sue (Jerry) Forest and Connie (Terry) Petersen both of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years and her sisters, Iva Wilson and Helen Schoondyke.
Margie’s family would like to thank all the staff at Park Centre for the wonderful care they gave her the many years she resided there.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at Iles Funeral Homes — Grandview Park Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Park Centre Good Samaritan Fund.
