Darrell E White, Jr. was born on September 11, 1944 to Darrell White, Sr and Edna Julius in Cherokee, Iowa. Darrell graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee in 1963. On May 07, 1992, he married Carolyn McCracken and they have been married ever since. Darrell is survived by his loving wife Carolyn; son Richard White and his two sons Spencer and Mitchell; son James White and his wife Carol and son Noah; son Robert White and his wife Jennifer, daughter Rumer and son Jager; stepson Kirt McCracken and his wife Patricia and son Tyler; stepdaughter Krisanne Hawse and her son Jalen.
For the first part of his career, Darrell spent 37 years at Fareway Grocery Stores: the last seventeen of those years as store manager at several different locations in Iowa. After what most would consider being a lifetime career at Fareway, he embarked on a new career centered on his love of flying. He began flying in 1986 while still with Fareway and quickly earned his VFR, IFR and ultimately instructor certification. In 1997 he became the Grinnell Airport Manager. While there he managed the airport business activities, gave flying lessons to those seeking VFR and IFR certification and rented planes. After losing his medical certification which affectively ended his time as a pilot, he turned to aircraft repair forming Iowa City Aircraft Repair with Keith Roof. He worked there until his retirement.
He retired in 2006 and he and Carolyn began to travel throughout the US. They would winter in the south and summer back in Iowa.
Darrell passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 01, 2010 at his home in Kellogg, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother Keith White. He is survived by a brother Roger of Liberty, MO, sister Patti of Sioux City, IA and Jean of Cherokee, IA.
