Donna M. Borchers McDonough, 78, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Newton, died Friday, March 26, 2010, at the Mayo Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz.
A memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Deacon Dan Goetz of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton officiating. The family will greet friends with a light lunch immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials to the American Legion Foundation of Iowa may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
The daughter of Bill and Wilma (Kothenbeutel) Chaney, she was born Sept. 21, 1931, in Eldora, Iowa. She was united in marriage to her first husband, Alvin E. Borchers, Nov. 21, 1950, in Eldora and to her second husband, Dr. Robert C. McDonough, on Feb. 2, 2001, in Sun City, Ariz.
Donna worked for many years as a secretary at Lincoln Elementary School in Newton. She then worked in the Jasper County Treasurer’s Office in the Auto Department. Donna retired from the Jasper County Social Services Office. Donna had lived in Newton from 1963 until she moved to Arizona in 2001.
Donna was a past member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton, VFW Post 1655 Auxiliary, American Legion Post 111 Auxiliary, National Box Car Association (40 & 8), served several terms as president of La Societe de Femme and was a past member of Moose Lodge #923.
Donna loved gardening, embroidering, crocheting, traveling, going to their cottage in Wisconsin and she loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Robert of Sun City, Ariz.; her daughter, Sharon (John) Bergeson of Runnells; two sons, James (Jan) Borchers of Grinnell and Arnie (Jan) Borchers of West Des Moines; six grandchildren, Jacob Bergeson of Runnells, Michelle (Clint) Crawford of Eldridge, Jennifer (Jordan) Dean of Rock Island, Ill., Amanda (Lance) DeVries of Pella, Kari (Harry) Marcley of Cedar Falls and Aaron Borchers of Des Moines; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eloise (Gene) Petersen of Des Moines and Judy (Paul) Cleaveland of Glendale, Ariz.; and a sister-in-law, Ana Borchers of El Paso, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Al Borchers, in 1994.
