Charles Boerstler Dead

Dies Suddenly of Heart Disease, Sunday Morning

Charles Boerstler, well known in this city for the past twenty years or more, died very suddenly in his room at Hotel Churchill, soon after one o’clock last Sunday morning. Although his health was known not to be very good for some time, no one supposed that danger was near. He had been about town as usual, mingling with his friends on the streets and in places of business, apparently as strong as he had seemed for years. Saturday morning he arose as usual and about noon, while in the hotel office, he was suddenly stricken by valvular heart trouble, and was carried to his room where he soon afterward regained consciousness and for a few hours was able to talk to his friends as usual. However, later in the afternoon he lapsed into unconsciousness, in which condition he remained until he passed peacefully away about one o’clock Sunday morning-October 8th.

Charlie Boerstler was a native of Ohio and his age was about 67. About twenty years ago he came to this city from Washington, this state, and was employed as a clerk in C. P. Axtell’s dry goods store. He came here so as to be near his sister, the late Mrs. George B. Hogin. Thirteen years ago, he retired from active business, but remained in Newton, making his home in Hotel Churchill.

Mr. Boerstler was never married. Although he was very sociable and made some very close friends, he was very retired and cared nothing for the general social world. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge, and we understand was very faithful in attending its meetings.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mayme Bartell of Berkley, California, and two nieces, Mrs. Robert Armstrong of Pasadena, California, and Miss Mabel Hogin of Birmingham, Alabama-daughters of the late Mrs. Hogin; none of them could be here for the funeral.

Funeral services were held in the First M. E. Church yesterday afternoon under the auspices of the Odd Fellow Lodge, the sermon preached by Rev. W. Luther Bright, pastor of the Lutheran Church. The remains were laid to rest in the Major Hogin lot in our______________. Rest of the page is cut off.
