Harold “Fred” Van Wyk, 69 of Collins, formerly of Prairie City, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 8, 2010, at Coburn Funeral Home of Prairie City with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jasper County, and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of Joe and Alta (Van Dusseldorp) Van Wyk, Harold was born on July 10, 1940 in Monroe. On March 10, 1961 Harold was united in marriage with Marjorie Ann Plate in Prairie City. The couple spent the next thirty plus years in Prairie City until their move to Collins. Harold was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, and especially enjoyed watching the football team play. Harold also liked traveling to his farm and cabin in Missouri for deer hunting and Minnesota for fishing. He cherished the times spent with his children and grandchildren.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife of over 48 years, Marjorie Van Wyk of Collins; children, Craig (Tracy) Van Wyk of Colfax; Kevin (Barb) Van Wyk of Collins; Kurt (Julie) Van Wyk of Prairie City; and Rhonda (Steve) Berry of Johnston; 9 grandchildren, Suzie, Ryan, Steph, Blake, Katie, Jake, Cole, Josh, and Drake; 2 step-grandchildren, Josh and Bailey; 2 step great-grandchildren, Emma and Ruger; siblings, Howard (Joyce) Van Wyk of Prairie City; Harlan (Sandy) Van Wyk of Chandler, AZ; Delmer (Diana) Van Wyk of Newton; Helen (Darrell) Nolin of Monroe; Dorothy (Jerry) Findlow of Monroe; Doris De Haai of Monroe; Donna (Lloyd) Steenhoek of Altoona; Lois Telfer of Prairie City; and Leona (Wade) Charls of Prairie City. Harold was preceded in death by his parents.
