James S. “Jim” Anderson, 64, of Des Moines, formerly of Newton, died on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from noon Saturday until the time of service at the funeral home. They will also greet friends following the service with a coffee time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Jim’s name or to the Animal Rescue League. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
Jim was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1965. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a salesman and buyer for G&L Clothing in Des Moines, retiring in December of 2009. He had also worked for The Loft and Younkers. Jim loved people, entertaining, he enjoyed taking care of people and he loved his work and his customers. Jim also loved yard work and his flower and hosta gardens.
Survivors include his father, Charles Anderson of Newton; two brothers, Dennis (Julie) Anderson of Kellogg and Scott (Monica) Anderson of Pleasanton, Calif.; his nieces and nephews, Katie, Blake, Nicole, Lucas, Logan and Andrea; and his best friend, Buddy (his dog). Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Berna, in 1998.
