Death of James Bell.

The wires brought to F. P. Bell, last Wednesday, March 30, the sad message telling of the death of his aged father at noon that day at the State Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, where he had been under treatment for the past two months. Father Bell’s age was nearly 75 years, and for the past 45 years he has resided in this county, near Reasnor, enjoying in the fullest measure the confidence and esteem of a wide circle of neighbors and friends. Besides his son living here, he was the father of Hill M. Bell, president of Drake University Des Moines.

The remains were brought to Reasnor, his old home for so many happy years, and funeral services were held in the M. E. Church there at 11 o’clock Thursday morning, conducted by Rev. E. F. Leake of this city and Rev. H. C. Millice of Reasnor after which the remains were laid to rest in the Mt. Zion cemetery. The following brief obituary of father Bell was read at the funeral service.

James Harrison Bell was born in Licking County, Ohio, April 18, 1835. He died March 30, 1910, at the advanced age of 74 years, 11 months and 5 days. He was the son of John and Mary Harrison Bell, both of whom lived to a ripe old age. He spent his youth and early manhood in Ohio, the state of his birth. In 1859 he was married to Elmy Ann Cooper. Of this union were born three children: Hill M., Eva and Frazee Bell. The daughter was called to her rest in 1878. The wife and two sons are left to mourn her loss.

In 1865 Mr. Bell removed with his family from Ohio to Iowa, where he has since resided. He lived a pure and upright life, and at peace with his neighbors. He was a good citizen who lived a life of toil uncomplainingly. In his humble sphere he did more than his share of the world’s work for less than is the usual dole to patient toilers. He was worthy the respect and had the love of the best of friends. ~ Newspaper unknown.
