Mrs. George B. Hogin

Mrs. Anna B. Hogin, widow of the late Major George b. Hogin, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert Armstrong, in Chicago, last Saturday morning, November 27th-her death following closely a severe stroke of apoplexy. The remains were brought to Newton Sunday morning, accompanied by her two daughters, Miss Mabel Hogin of Birmingham, Alabama, and Mrs. Blanche Armstrong and the latter’s husband, and taken to the undertaking parlor of the Iowa Mercantile Co. In the afternoon brief services were held at the cemetery, after which she was laid to rest beside her husband and only son, Willie, who died several years ago.

Mrs. Hogin’s age was about 65, a native of Hillsboro, Ohio. Her maiden name was Anna Boerstler. She was married to Major Hogin in 1863, who was a soldier in the 13th Iowa, and spent the first winter of their married life with him in Vicksburg. At the close of the war Major and Mrs. Hogin settled in Newton where for several years afterward he was engaged in the drug business. She was a lovely little woman-a great favorite in social and church circles. They left here several years ago, living in California and at points in the east. Beside her two daughters, she is survived by one brother and one sister, Mr. Charles Boerstler of this city and Mrs. J. S. Bartle of New York City. ~ Newspaper unknown.
