William L. Halverson, 77, of Ripon, Wis., passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah.
William was born in Stoughton, Wis., on Sept. 16, 1932, the son of Milo and Idella (Femrite) Halverson. He graduated from Stoughton High School in 1950, University of Wisconsin — Whitewater with a bachelor of science degree in 1959, Roosevelt University with a master of science degree in 1967 and the University of Wisconsin — Madison with a doctorate in 1973. William worked in different areas of education for 32 years. He was a teacher in math and physics, a high school principal, superintendent of schools in Newton, Iowa, and Elyria, Ohio, and Ohio State Department of Public Instruction.
In 1957, William married Jacqueline Rose in Whitewater, Wis. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church ELCA in Ripon and had been a member of the Lions and Rotary in the past. William served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline of Ripon; one daughter, Jennifer (Ed) Tokar of Lorain, Ohio; one son, Eric Halverson of N. Fond du Lac, Wis.; three grandsons, Levi Halverson of Malone, Wis., and Steven and Joey Tokar of Lorain, Ohio; one brother, Philip (Ruth) Halverson of Mt. Horeb, Wis.; and three nieces, Mary Clair (Jeff) Lukehart of McMinnville, Ore., Marcia (Randy) Chambers of Lancaster, Wis., and Karen (Jeff) Taylor of Oconomowoc, Wis. William was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for William will be on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, from 11 a.m. to noon at Grace Lutheran Church, 430 Griswold Street, Ripon. A funeral service for William will be at noon at Grace Lutheran Church in Ripon with Pastor Sandra Krynik officiating. Military honors will be held at the church following the service.
