Diane R. Hansen, 61, of Des Moines, formerly of Newton, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at Wesley Acres Care Center in Des Moines.
The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Dec. 31, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The visitation will conclude with a short prayer service at the funeral home. After the service a celebration of life will be held at Okoboji Grill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Newton Fire Department may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Clifford “Bill” and Marjorie (Bollhoefer) Cross, Diane was born May 30, 1948, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was a graduate of Baxter High School in 1966. On Jan. 18, 1986, she was united in marriage to Denison “Denny” L. Hansen in Newton.
During most of her employed years, Diane worked at Newton Manufacturing and for the City of Newton. She retired from the Newton Fire Department in 2007. She was past member of ABWA and had also sold Mary Kay Cosmetics. She grew up in Baxter and lived there much of her younger life. She later was a longtime Newton resident.
Diane enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She liked playing bridge and going bowling with her friends. She also loved lattes, making cheesecakes, her dogs and riding her motorcycle.
She is survived by one son, Matt (Minniette) Milligan of Baxter; three daughters, Andrea (Aaron Parker) Milligan of North Attleboro, Mass., Sherri (Gregg) Gray of Ames and Lori (Rick) Berning of Plymouth, Minn.; six grandchildren, Shaun, Jessica and Dalton Howerton and Judy, Josh and Drew Berning; one brother, Darrell (Kay) Cross of Des Moines; and one sister, Susan (Dennis) Mooers of Carlisle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford “Bill” Cross and Marjorie Bollhoefer Cross Herbold and Joseph Herbold, and her husband, Denny Hansen, in 2008.
