Death of an Old Resident
Henry J. Snodgrass, one of the early settlers of Jasper County, died at the home of his son, Ferd, near What Cheer, last Sunday morning, April 25th, aged nearly 77 years. His health began to fail over a year ago, and during the last few months of his life he was confined to his bed a great sufferer most of the time.
He came to Jasper County with his parents, the Garrett Snodgrass’, in the early 50s, settling on a farm near Galesburg. He was but a boy then, and the greater part of his long life has been spent in this county.
For the past 10 or 12 years he had lived near Delta in Keokuk County. His wife died in March 1914, and since then he has made his home among his children. He had been the father of Sixteen children, twelve of whom survive the parents: Mrs. C. H. Howell, near Newton; Mrs. Chas. Swisher, Sully; Mrs. Grant Ferguson, Lee and Ferd Snodgrass, What Cheer; Mrs. Lee Patterson, Mrs. Milton Jarnagin, Delta; Elbert Snodgrass, Kesswick; Jesse Snodgrass, Des Moines; Orville, Har (rest of print blacked out) and Harry Snodgrass, in South Dakota. Of his father’s family only one now remains, Ms. Henry L. Kroh of Newton.
Funeral services and interment were at Delta, beside the faithful companion. Those from Newton in attendance were Mrs. C. H. Howell, Mrs. Ann Snodgrass and Mrs. H. L. Kroh. ~ Newspaper unknown.
