Death of Mrs. D. H. Bain

Passes Away from Her Home near Reasnor last Thursday

Magdelena Farmer Bain was born March 12, 1847, in Licking County, Ohio, and died at her old home place two miles west of Reasnor, Iowa, Oct. 6, 1910, aged 63 years, 6 months and 6 days.

In early life she came to Iowa and settled in the Mt. Zion neighborhood. August 16, 1870, she was united in marriage to D. H. Bain and settled on the farm where she died. To this union were born six children: Mrs. Emma Sipes, Mrs. Nettie Wheeler, Fred, Neal, Mina and Ora Bain. The father and two children, Neal and Mina, preceded her to the better land, the others live in or near Reasnor. Her youngest son, Ora, has been in New Mexico the past six months for his health and was unable to reach home until after the death of his mother. Besides her immediate family she leaves one brother, Stephen Farmer of Parsons, Kans., and one sister, Mrs. Mary Vaness, of Crofton, Neb., who had spent a month this summer in helping to care for her.

Mrs. Bain was converted when a young girl and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Mt. Zion. She was a good Christian woman, and bore her years of suffering with a patience that was inspiring to those who were around. For the last ten years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Emma Sipes, who has ever been mindful of her every want, ministering to her with all the tenderness of a loving daughter. As she neared the end she called her dear ones to her side and bade them “good bye” and passed away.

The funeral services were held Sunday Oct. 9, conducted by Rev. H. C. Millice, of Kellogg, Iowa, after which her remains were laid to rest beside the remains of her husband in the Monroe cemetery. On Account of the serious illness of Ora, the services were held at the grave where a large concourse of people, with bowed heads, and sympathetic hearts stood and listened, as the sun was going down its western slope. ~ Newspaper unknown.
