Obituary-J. B. Swearingen

John B. Swearingen was born near Philippi, Barbara County, West Virginia, September 11, 1852, and died July 21, 1915, while visiting at the home of his daughter Mrs. P. E. Hammer, near Newton. He was a sufferer from dropsy during the last two years. When a lad of 6 years, his parents moved to a farm near Reasnor, Jasper County, Iowa, where he resided until about 6 years ago, when he moved to Marshalltown, Iowa. He was united in marriage with Matilda A. Dearinger May 1, 1880. To this union were born 7 children, six daughters and one son, six of whom with the wife and mother survive him. They are Mrs. P. E. Hammer of Newton, Mrs. D. S. Gardner, Mrs. W. C. Peters, Mrs. Denver Huston and Mrs. John Vanderwerf of Marshalltown, and Charles H. of the parental home. He is also survived by two brothers and four sisters, James L. and Leonard Swearingen, Mrs. J. B. Lawson of Newton, Mrs. H. Landmesser of Killduff, Mrs. G. Pardee of Eskridge, Kansas, and Mrs. G. Staker of Kansas City. He was a devoted husband, a kind and indulgent father and an obliging neighbor, and will be greatly missed among those who knew him. ~ Newspaper unknown.
