Floyd Parker Killed in Tractor Mishap
Floyd Parker, 51, who lives northeast of Colfax, was killed Friday afternoon when a tractor he was operating overturned on him. He had hitched the tractor to a corn picker that had become stalled on a slope and when the tractor was started up the grade, it turned over backwards, crushing Mr. parker beneath it.
He had been a resident of Jasper County all his life and was born on the farm where his death occurred. He was the son of Edward and Elizabeth Parker.
Survivors besides his wife, Obera Parker, whom he married in Des Moines January 27, 1926, are his mother, Mrs. Edward Parker, a daughter, Mrs. Joyce Still of Newton, a son Dorman, who is in Germany, two brothers, Hugh Parker of Colfax and Roy Parker of Newton. Two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Skinner of Newton and Mrs. Felix Thode of Des Moines and two grandchildren also survive.
He was a member of the Elks lodge.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Morgan-Loehr Funeral home in Newton at 3:00 with the Rev. Allan K. Williams, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating.
Music was furnished by Marion Welle, soloist accompanied by Mrs. Lois Stanton at the organ.
Bearers were Hollis Hanson, Alan Herbold, Stanley Byal, James Hansen, Paul Ingram and Denver Byal.
Floral arrangements were in charge of Mrs. Alan Herbold, Mrs. James Hansen, Mrs. Henry Jensen and Mrs. Dan Jensen.
Burial was in the Newton Union cemetery.
