Death Claims Mrs. Mary Baker After Long Illness
Had Been A Resident of Colfax For Thirty Seven Years
Mrs. Mary Baker, 71, who for thirty-seven years had been a resident of Colfax, died at 2:10 Monday afternoon. She had been in ill health for eleven years and seriously so since the 19th of June. She was born at Otter Creek, Iowa.
Mary Garret was united in marriage to Charles A. Baker in 1888. He preceded her in death in 1906. He was a carpenter by trade.
The deceased was ever thoughtful of those about her and in earlier years made many a pilgrimage to the home of a neighbor or friend that she might give her assistance where needed.
She is survived by one daughter, Miss Bess Baker and two sons Roy and Russell Baker of Colfax, one nephew, Ganzy Garret, now in the U.S. Navy, whom she raised from childhood, six sisters, Mrs. Amanda Norris and Mrs. C. C. Ferris of Des Moines, Mrs. Elsie Penn Miller of Maquoketa, Mrs. Annie Stickley of Monmouth, Iowa, Mrs. Byron Finch of Clinton, Mrs. Kate Ward of Ft. Smith, Ark., and two brothers, Wm. Garrett of Colfax and Arthur Garrett of Ames.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon from the home with Rev. A. O. Wendelburg, pastor of the Presbyterian Church officiating. The casket will not be opened after the service begins.
