Funeral services for Sheri Anthony-Jones, 64, of Newton will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, which has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family will greet friends at a fellowship time and lunch in the Pence Tribute Center following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Sheri’s name to Hospice of Jasper County.
Sheri Ann Anthony-Jones, the daughter of Theodore Samuel and Francis Eliza (Flynn) Jack, was born Oct. 7, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from the Newton Senior High School. Sheri married David Diehm, and to this union was born a daughter, Kelli. She later was married to Arnold Anthony in 1983, who preceded her in death.
Sheri was employed for many years as a medical secretary for Mid-Iowa OB-GYN in Des Moines. She retired as the medical secretary for Iowa Clinic Urology Department. Sheri was a longtime resident of the Des Moines area, returning to Newton in 2007.
On Nov. 27, 2009, Sheri was united in marriage with Robert L. Jones in Newton. She enjoyed camping, reading, sewing and spending time with her family and friends, and she loved her dog, Mandy.
Sheri died on Thursday morning, Dec. 10, 2009, in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold; her sisters, Elizabeth Mae Bumgarner in November 2006 and Beverly Jo Van Drimmelen on Nov. 18, 2009.
Those left to honor Sheri’s memory include her husband, Robert Jones of Newton; her daughter, Kelli (Greg) Becker of Ankeny, Iowa; her step-son and step-daughter, Joseph (Kelly) Jones of Ankeny and Sheryl (Steve) Lawrence of Des Moines; her grandson, Jacob Becker; her six step-grandchildren; her sister, Barbara (William) Ponder of Newton; her brothers-in-law, Bob Van Drimmelen of Newton and Merwin Bumgarner of West Des Moines; her nieces and nephews; and her many friends.
