Wendall E. Smith, 77, of Monroe, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
A memorial gathering will be Saturday from noon until 6 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe.
The family will be present from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be no other services.
Memorials may be donated to the Wendall E. Smith Memorial Fund and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

Wendall was born on April 17, 1932, in Morristown, New York. He proudly served in the United States Army, with two stints in Viet Nam. Wendall loved to fish, hunt and follow the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include his children; Wendall Joe Smith of Cedar Rapids, Joshua D. Wood of Monroe, Ken (Sandy) Smith of Knoxville and Wendy (Tom) Allen of Knoxville; Six grandchildren, Jeremy Rankin, Staci Rankin, Justin Colella, Patricia Camden, Jared Camden, and Christine Allen and five great grandchildren, Sullivan Colella, Cooper Colella, Mayzee Daugherty, Wyatt Camden and Kolby Camden. Preceding him in death were his parents.
