PELLA — A memorial service for David Van Haaften, 64, of Pella will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pella First Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service.

David Anthony Van Haaften, son of David and Ruth Bovee Van Haaften, was born on February 21, 1945, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He passed away at his home on the morning of Tuesday, August 26, 2009, at the age of sixty-four.
David attended Oskaloosa High School, graduating with the class of 1963.
On September 7, 1974, he was united in marriage with Lovena Franklin at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. To this union their son, Jason, was born.
As a young adult, David enjoyed speed. Speed racing on land and in a boat. If he couldn?t race, then he wanted to be part of a racing team, and became a mechanic for Doug Wolf's racing team. Later he was a car mechanic. After his marriage he moved to Pella and began working for Pella Corporation where he retired in January 2006.
David's love of people let him to never meet a stranger. His motorcycle rides to Sturgis was a witness for his Lord and Savior. As an amateur radio operator (Ham) he loved to talk "around the world." If David wasn't gazing at antennas in the air, he was gazing at the stars.
David was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pella for over thirty-three years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lovena; his son and wife, Jason and Kelly Van Haaften of Pella; three grandchildren: Bob Leonard, Kaleena and MaKenna Van Haaften; his twin sister, Frances Ann Larcher of Algonquin, Illinois; nieces: Joyce Ann Gustafson, Lynda Kay Brassor, Melissa Kayjo Coughlan, Crystal Dawn Dolude; and numerous cousins and friends.
Those preceding him in death are: his parents; his brother Bobby at the age of two, and his sister, Darlene Den Hartog.
