BALES, BERRY, FANE, KNOUSE

C. Marie Berry, 80, of the Altoona Manor Care Center, formerly of Newton, died early Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the care center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. The Rev. Ray Barnett will officiate and burial will be in the Palo Alto Cemetery.
Friends may call after 12 p.m. Friday. Family visitation is scheduled for 6:30-8 p.m. Friday.
Memorials in her name will be accepted.
Survivors include one daughter, Harriett Fane of Des Moines; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and three brothers, Ray Bales of Independence, Guy Bales of Melcher, and Paul Bales of Colfax.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lloyd.
She was a member of the Christian Church in Milo; charter member of the Palo Alto Grange; and member of the National Grange and Fireside Club. She worked as a rural schoolteacher and homemaker.
The daughter of John L. and Bessie E. Knouse Bales, she was born Feb. 19, 1905, in Milo. She graduated from Milo High School and Simpson College, Indianola.
She lived most of her married life in Jasper County, and moved to Altoona in August 1978, due to her health.
She was married to Lloyd Berry on April 28, 1924, in Knoxville.
