PRAIRIE CITY – Funeral services for Grace Bowans, 94, of Prairie City will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City.
The Rev. James Seibert, pastor of the Prairie City United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home
Memorial contributions to a fund in Mrs. Bowans’ name may be left at the funeral home.
She died Saturday at the Valley View Village in Des Moines.
Survivors are two daughters, Elsie (Mrs. Raymond) Lowman of Ames and Kathryn (Mrs. Robert) Williams of Clarinda; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Pearl Schakel of Des Moines; and two brothers, Luther Schakel of Prairie City and Paul Schakel of Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, two brothers, a sister, and a great-grandson.
Mrs. Bowans, a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church, taught rural school and had worked for the De Wit Grocery for 19 years.
The daughter of dirk and Sophia DeLarm Schakel, she was born Dec. 31, 1891 in Beaconsfield and attended Central College in Pella.
She was married to Hugh Melvin Bowans June 27, 1915.
