DES MOINES — Dorothy Brown, 72, of Des Moines, formerly of Kellogg, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.
Memorials to Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.
The daughter of Isaac and Anna (Hauesperger) Brown, she was born on Feb. 25, 1937, in Newton. She grew up in Kellogg and then moved to Des Moines to attend college and lived the rest of her life in Des Moines.
She was a graduate of Kellogg High School in 1955, and then graduated from AIB in Des Moines. She worked as a secretary for Iowa Dental, an insurance company and Shazam, all in Des Moines. Dorothy was an active and devoted member of the Stover Memorial Church of the Brethren for many years where she served on the sewing society and as treasurer. She also belonged to a bowling league in Des Moines and a ladies group.
She loved to crochet and do crafts which she would sell at craft shows.
Survivors include three brothers, Merl (Gerdena) Brown of Kellogg, Leland (Joyce) Brown of Marshalltown and Glen (Nancy) Brown of Newton; one half-brother, Joe Brown of Moline, Ill.; many nieces and nephews; and her aunt, Nellie Hauesperger of Newton.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents.
