Memorial services for Robert W. Suckow will be held on Saturday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton, Iowa. A visitation with the family will be held Friday, July 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Graveside services and burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Plymouth, Wis.
Bob, the son of William and Anna (Schulz) Suckow, was born June 26, 1919, in Plymouth, Wis. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth, Wis. He graduated from St. John Lutheran School, Plymouth High School, Sheboygan Business College with an associate degree in business administration, an equivalency bachelor of arts degree from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and three Air Force training schools.
He served six years of active duty as a Command Pilot in B-24 Liberator Bombers with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theatre of Operation during World War II and 18 years of reserve and active duty. He retired from the Air Force Reserve after 24 years as lieutenant colonel. He remained an active pilot in civilian life.
Bob married Mildred Thompson on Oct. 10, 1942. Following her death, he married Shirley Ann Bollhoefer on Jan. 1, 1972.
He was the controller for Plymouth Industrial Products for 71⁄2 years and was associated with H. G. Weber Company and D. J. Peterson Company in Wisconsin. After 15 years as general office manager, he retired from Longview FibreCompany in 1978. Following that, he started his own human resource development consulting firm, R.W. Suckow and Associates.
He was president of the Milwaukee Chapter of the Administrative Management Society, and on the Area and International levels, having served as the international vice president — chairman of the Board of Regents of the Certified Administrative Manager Program. He has received the highest award for service, the Ambassador Award. For academic, business and professional accomplishments, he was awarded the designations of certified administrative manager and certified manager from the Institute of certified professional managers.
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Military Officers Association of America, Second Air Division Association of the Eighth Air Force, Eighth Air Force Historical Society, Jasper County Farm Bureau and Jasper County Historical Society. He was active with Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE) and was listed in Who’s Who of the Midwest for outstanding contributions in the field of Human Resource Development and volunteer work.
Robert W. Suckow of Newton, Iowa, at 90 years and 22 days of age, died July 18, 2009, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, Iowa. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mildred; six sisters; five brothers; and daughter-in-law, Martha Suckow.
Bob is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Suckow of Newton; his son Roger Suckow of Fox Point, Wis; his daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Dennis Kutz of New Berlin, Wis., and Bonnie and James Guenther of New Berlin, Wis.; his grandchildren, Joel and Kristin Kutz, Lisa and Scott Plopper, Jeremy and Nichole Guenther, Aaron Guenther and Jami and Doug Graber; his great-grandchildren, Elias Kutz, Abigail Kutz, Jacob Plopper, Ryan Graber; and his brother and sister-in-law, William and Eve Suckow of Naples, Fla.
