Mary E. Leydens, 97, of Pella died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at her home.
Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, July 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A vigil service will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The daughter of Jacob and Antonia (Dolensek) Stremfel, Mary was born on March 4, 1912, in Seevers, Iowa. Mary graduated from Colfax High School. On December 29, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to Nicholas Leydens at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Mary grew up and spent the majority of her life in Colfax, moving to Pella 30 years ago. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pella.
Those left to honor her memory, her husband of years, Nick of Pella; a daughter, Marilyn (Robert) Bell of Johnston, a son John T. (Kelly) Leydens of West Des Moines; three grandchildren, Jason and Anthony Leyfdens and Leanne Davis; two great grandchildren, Sydney and Brandon Davis. Also surviving is a sister, Elizabeth Smith of Buffalo Center, Iowa. Preceding Mary in death were her parents, a son, Nicky; a daughter, Barb and several brothers and sisters.
Memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund in Pella or Hospice of Pella
