Marjorie June Bradley, 79, formerly of Clermont, Manchester and Newton, Iowa, died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at her daughter's home in Hudson, Iowa, surrounded by her children, following a brief battle with cancer.
Marge was born on June 1, 1930 in Fayette, Iowa, to Carl and Grace (Helmer) Westpfahl. She was baptized at West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa. Marge graduated from Clermont High School in 1948, where she played the Bass Drum in the band and was on the Clermont Basketball Team.
Following graduation, Marge moved to Chicago, IL, with two of her sisters. While living in Chicago, she met her future husband Charles Bradley. They were united in marriage in April of 1949. Five wonderful children were born to this union. Marge was active in her local church and scouts. Charles passed away in April of 1970.
Marge continued working at Walgreen's in Chicago, IL, until 1975, when she moved to Manchester, IA, with Linda and Roger to manage the Sleepy Hollow Motel. While living in Manchester, IA, she was active in the First Lutheran Church. In 1990, Marge moved back to the Chicago area until 1993, moving to Newton, IA, remaining there until her death.
In Newton, she was active in R.S.V.P. and received a Volunteer Award. Marge was a passionate card and letter writer, as well as collected glass baskets and anything with smiley faces. She loved watching the growth of her grandchildren and spending time with her family. Marge remained a basketball fanatic throughout her life. No matter where she lived or who she met, she left behind smiling faces and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her seven grandchildren: Dan Bradley (significant other, Lisa Sexton), Chris Bradley, Stefanie Bradley, Kim Bradley (significant other, Jason Carnes), Jake Bradley, Jenny Paul (significant other, Christopher Rudebeck) and her Kathy Paul; four children; Chuck (Bobbi) Bradley, Elgin, IL; Jeff (Kathy) Bradley, Mount Prospect, IL; Linda (Dave) Paul, Hudson, IA; Roger Bradley, Iowa City; siblings: Lorraine Miller, Oshkosh, WI; Ken (Ruth) Westpfahl, MO; Ruth (Ken) Amundson, Clermont; Bert (Joyce) Westpfahl, Hiawatha; Betty (Dale) Freeman, Cedar Rapids; and Dick (Barb) Westpfahl, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Mike Bradley; one brother, Wally Westpfahl; two sisters, Teen Hauser, Louise Westpfahl and her faithful friend, Tag.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at 11:00 am at West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa. The Rev. Dwight Albers will officiate.
Inurnment will take place at a later date at the West Union Cemetery, West Union, Iowa.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, from 4-8 pm at the Schutte - Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clermont, Iowa, and one at www.graufuneralhomes.com. Schutte - Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Clermont is in charge of arrangements.
