Funeral services for Dolores will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2009, at the First Christian Church in Newton. The Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton have been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be from 5:30 until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at the funeral home.
Dolores L. Cleverley, 82, of Newton, the daughter of Carl S. and Minnie M. (Kline) Dodd, was born May 20, 1927, near Collins. She attended school in State Center and Baxter prior to graduating from the Newton Senior High School, class of 1944.
On Dec. 31, 1945, Dolores was united in marriage with Frank Elwin Cleverley in Newton. She was employed by the United Telephone Company, and the Vernon Company, from 1964-1989. She devoted her life to her family and enjoyed being with her friends. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Newton. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, bowling, crocheting, all sports and was an avid Cubs and Hawkeyes fan.
Dolores died on Monday evening, July 13, 2009, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank on May 6, 2009; a grandson, Jay Reed; and a sister, Margie Milligan.
Those left to honor Dolores’ memory include her daughters, Carla (Bill) Greer of Ottumwa, Candy (Rod) Meyer of Killduff, Cindy (Mike) Richards of Newton and Cris (Larry) Crady of Newton; her nine grandchildren, Scott Reed of Port Byron, Ill., Chad (Mary) Meyer of Monroe, Kristen (Todd) Kroll of Ankeny, Jolee Meyer of Killduff and her fiancé, Luke Jansen of Sully, Tyler (Sandra) Richards of Newton, Lance Richards and his fianceé, Amanda Gretch of Roseville, Minn., Lindsey Richards, Danielle Crady and Austin Crady, all of Newton; her eight great-grandchildren, Tanner, Colby, Brady, Celia (Andrew), Nicole and Monica (Luke); her three great-great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Jadon and Hailey; her sister, Carole Price of Newton; two sisters-in-law, Amilee Parsons of Newton and Lorena Cleverley of Indianola; many nieces and nephews; and her many good
friends.
Memorials in Dolores’ name are being designated to Hospice of Jasper County, First Christian Church or J.D.R.F.
