A memorial funeral services for Carl Anderson, 86, of Newton will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton which has been entrusted with the arrangements. There is no visitation with the family planned.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carl’s name are being designated to Hospice of Jasper County or to the charity of donor’s choice.
Carl R.W. Anderson, the son of Edwin C. and Alida (Brandt) Anderson, was born April 13, 1923, in Des Moines. In 1927, Carl moved with his family to Newton, where he graduated from the Newton Senior High School, class of 1941. Carl had served his country during World War II, with the U. S. Army. On April 18, 1942, Carl was united in marriage with Helen M. Anderson in Newton. He was employed by the U. S. Postal Service, retiring in 1982, after 23 years of service.
He had devoted his life to his wife and family, and was a member of the First Lutheran Church, V.F.W. Post #1655, the American Legion Post #111 and the Local Postal Union. Carl was a carpenter at heart, enjoying wood working, coin collecting and gardening.
Death came to Carl on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Stephanie; and his three brothers, Ed, Walt and John.
Those left to honor Carl’s memory include his wife of 67 years, Helen M. Anderson of Newton; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim (Jill) Anderson of Newton and Alex (Barb) Anderson of Baxter; his granddaughter, Kelly; his grandson, Aaron; several nieces and nephews; and his many great friends.
