Mrs. J. M. McQuiston Died in Washington
Pioneer Resident and Mother of 10 Children, Funeral to be in Colfax
Mrs. J. M. McQuiston, 89, died Monday morning, February 19th in the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. S. Sharp at Yakima, Washington. She had been in failing health for a number of years, and this past winter had been bedfast a greater share of the time. Death was due to dropsy and other frailties of age. In June of 1949 she went to Yakima in company with her late husband for a visit. His death occurred on March 25th, 1950 and his ashes and her body will be returned to Colfax for burial Saturday at the McKeever cemetery.
Funeral services will be held from the Christian Church at 2 o’clock.
Sarah Ellen Palmer, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Palmer, was born April 9th, 1861 at Mercer County, Missouri. She spent her early life in this vicinity and on March 8th, 1883 was united in marriage to James Martin McQuiston at Esbon, Kansas. In 1865, the couple moved to Colfax and lived here until 1901 when they went to Colorado, living there for ten years. They returned to Colfax in 1912 and resided here continuously until 1949 when they went to the home of their daughter in Yakima, Wash.
They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary prior to his death.
She was the mother of ten children, the eight who survive her being Mrs. C. S. Sharp and Nick McQuiston of Yakima, Washington, Mrs. M. A. Binkerd, Charles and Robert McQuiston of Colfax, Mrs. Otto Goodman of Madrid, Iowa, Ernest McQuiston of Delta, Colorado, and Will McQuiston of Cedar Rapids. Besides her husband, the two sons preceding her in death were George, at the age of 26 and Fred, who was 24 years old at his death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Christian Church with the Rev. Walter Goughnour officiating. Interment will be in the McKeever cemetery.

Held Saturday Afternoon From Christian Church with Rev. W. E. Goughnour Officiating
Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. J. M. McQuiston were held Saturday afternoon from the Christian Church with the pastor, Rev. W. E. Goughnour officiating.
Mrs. McQuiston, 89, died Feb. 19 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. C. S. Sharp at Yakima, Wash. Mr. McQuiston, 95, died March 25, 1950 in Yakima and his ashes were returned with the body of his wife with the double funeral services being held here at their home church.
James Martin McQuiston was born in Rochester, Johnson County, Iowa, March 18, 1955, and passed away in Yakima, Washington, March 25, 1950 at the age of 95 years and 7 days.
Sarah Ellen Palmer, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Palmer, was born in Mercer County, Mo., April 9, 1961, and passed away February 19, 1951 at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 10 days.
They were united in marriage at Esbon, Kansas March 8, 1883, and in 1885 they moved to Colfax where they lived until 1901 at which time they moved out west, where they made their home for ten years.
They returned to Colfax in 1912 and resided here continuously until 1949 when they went to Yakima to live with their daughter, Jessie.
Prior to his death they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.
To this union ten children were born, two of which preceded them in death.
Leaving to mourn their passing are Mrs. C. S. Sharp and Nick McQuiston of Yakima, Washington, Mrs. M. A. Binkerd, Charles and Robert McQuiston of Colfax, Mrs. Otto Goodman of Madrid, Iowa, Ernest McQuiston of Delta, Colorado and Will McQuiston of Cedar Rapids, 24 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren as well as other relatives and many friends.
Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. Earl Plummer and Mrs. George Rinker with Marilyn Krebs, organist.
Pallbearers were Grant Goodman, Will McQuiston Jr., Will Sowers, James McQuiston, Donald Binkerd and Leland Martin.
Flower committee – Mrs. C. A. Leonard and Mrs. L. W. Faidley.
Burial was in the McKeever cemetery.
