Frank E. Cleverley, 83, of Newton died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials in the name of Frank Elwin Cleverley may be left at the funeral home.
Born on Nov. 29, 1925, in rural Collins, he was the son of Charles E. and Grace B. (Barbee) Cleverley. Frank had lived in Baxter prior to moving to Newton in 1959. He was united in marriage to Dolores L. Dodd on Dec. 31, 1945, in Newton.
Frank graduated from Baxter High School in Baxter in 1944. He worked 37 years for the Maytag Company starting as a production worker and retiring in 1981 as a supervisor. He had also done TV repair and worked at the Townsend Roofing Credit Union. Frank was a Lifetime member of VFW Post 1655, a member of the American legion Post 111 and had been on the Tri-County Credit Union Board. Frank served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, and the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores of Newton; four daughters, Carla (Bill) Greer of Ottumwa, Candy (Rod) Meyer of Killduff, Cindy (Mike) Richards and Cris (Larry) Crady, all of Newton; nine grandchildren, Scott Reed of Port Byron, Ill., Chad (Mary) Meyer of Monroe, Kristen (Todd) Kroll of Ankeny, Jolee Meyer of Killduff, and her fiancé, Luke Jansen of Sully, Tyler (Sandra) Richards of Newton, Lance Richards and his fiancée, Amanda Gretch of Roseville, Minn., Lindsey Richards, Danielle Crady and Austin Crady , all of Newton; eight great-grandchildren, Tanner, Colby, Brady, Celia and husband, Andrew, Nicole, Monica and husband, Luke, Amber, and Ashley; three great-great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Jadon, and Hayley; sister, Amilee Parsons of Newton; and a sister-in-law, Lorena Cleverley of Indianola.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jay Reed; two brothers, Melvin “Casey” Cleverley and Billy Cleverley in infancy; and sister, Betty Wright.
