Roscoe K. DePenning, 92, of Newton died on Thursday, April 23, 2009, at the Newton Health Care Center in Newton.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton at a later date.

A private family burial will be held at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Those left to honor Skeets's memory are his wife, Bette of Newton; 2 daughters, Connie Riggs of Maryville, MO and Deb DePenning of Newton; son, Michael (Jan) DePenning of Newton; 6 grandchildren, Melissa (Scott) Brown of Newton, Christopher Riggs of Gladstone, MO, Amy (Chad) Gastler of Maryville, MO, Kylie Riggs of Kansas City, MO, Tammi Herduin of Newton, and Travis (Jenny) Herduin of Newton; and his 9 great-grandchildren, Josh, Jacob, Summer, Madelyn, Hanna, Kamryn, Grace, Cooper, and Laynie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Arlie (Gaffis) DePenning and a brother, Lester.
Skeets graduated from Newton High School in 1934. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a member of the BPO Elks #1270, American Legion Post 111, VFW Post 1655, NRA, and a baptized member of the Wittemberg Church. Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County, Elks National Foundation, or the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family.
