Larry died on Friday, March 20, 2009, at Parkview Terrace, East Moline following a courageous 9 1/2 year battle with Parkison’s Disease.
Larry Dean Brown was born March 24, 1940, in Newton, the son of Oscar Smith and Thelma (Cooper) Brown. He was united in marriage to Mary K. “Taffy” Vochko on Jan. 5, 1988, in Las Vegas, Nev. On May 14, 2005, Larry and Taffy were pleased to have shared with family and friends the renewal of their wedding vows at Our Lady of Victory Church.
Mr. Brown had worked for American Air Filter. He retired in 2006 as a federal employee having served the U.S. government at the Rock Island Arsenal, where he was a Supply Management Specialist for Nuclear as well as for TACOM. He was deeply patriotic and proudly volunteered as a civilian in 1991 during Desert Storm stationed in Saudi Arabia for six months. He counted this as one of his greatest accomplishments.
He loved music and enjoyed playing the guitar and organ. He was quite a photographer. He traveled to Europe and also cherished the 105 days spent cruising the Caribbean with his wife, Taffy.
Larry hiked the Grand Canyon three times and had rafted 277 miles through the canyon. He also enjoyed the many trips he took with family and especially with his brother Gary to the National Parks. Most of all, Larry was happiest when he was surrounded by his family.
The family respectfully requests no flowers. Memorials may be directed to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church or the Wisconsin Parkinson Foundation.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Taffy; daughters and spouses, Donna and Jerry Rath of Bettendorf, Sherry and Larry Hill of Fenton, Ill., and Lisa and Chris Hammond of Portland, Ore.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jacob and Bridget Meyer of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Luther Wirtz, Larry Hill III, Megan Estabrook, Valerie Hill, Ben Estabrook, Terence Hill, Katrina Estabrook, Anna Rath and Jade Meyer; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Donna Brown of Cedar Falls; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. May they rest in peace.
