Carolee L. (Breckenridge) Rairdon Durant, 72, of Newton died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2009, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton with Chaplain John L. Prater officiating. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.
Memorials in Carolee’s name may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Carroll and Lorene (Munger) Breckenridge, Carolee was born Dec. 9, 1936, in Newton. She was a homemaker and enjoyed feeding squirrels, birds and stray animals. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Denise (Ben) Leal of Newton and Terri (Todd) Lust of Mitchellville, Iowa; a son, Richard (Jackie) Durant of Des Moines, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Josh (Emily) Peterson, Derek (Elizabeth) Peterson, Joseph Peterson, Benjamin Leal, Patty Lust, Eddie (Brook) Lust, Nicki Lust, Jessica Lust, Ricky Durant, and Kevin Durant; five great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Morgan Peterson, Cale Patterson, Treyshaun Lust and Jaeden Lust; and two sisters, Shirley (Harry) Brant of Las Vegas, Nev., and Helen Rairdon of Kansas City, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Lorene Breckenridge; adoptive parents, Ralph and Mable Rairdon; and a grandson, Dylan Peterson.
