John Nicholas Williams, 79, of Davenport passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009.
Per his wishes, cremation rites have been performed and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made in his name to Oakdale Memorial Gardens Inc. The Runge Mortuary & Crematory is assisting with the arrangements.
John was born on Nov. 1, 1929, in Mahaska County, the son of Nicholas John and Josie Mae (Monzlock) Williams.
John was an over-the-road driver for most of his life, working for various trucking companies. He also worked for several years with the City of Pella. In his spare time, John enjoyed fishing and sharing stories.
He is survived by special friend, Marian Porter of Davenport; children, Timothy Dale Williams of Grinnell, Deana Kay Williams of Newton and Gregory S. Williams of Pella; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Nicholas John (John’s twin) of Lakeside, Calif., Billy Leroy of Ottumwa, Josie Marie (Al) Hipsher of Brownstown, Ill., Melvin “Pete” Earl (Helen) of Davenport and Fanny Louise (Charles “Barney”) McKittick of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters-in-law, Jeretta M. (Malcolm) of Ottumwa and Mary B. (Robert) of Davenport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Wayne Joe, Jacob “Jake” A., Malcolm “Max” Bernard, Robert Dale and Joe Marvin (Josie Marie’s twin); one granddaughter, Aimee Erickson; and nephew, Jimmy Wayne Williams.
Very special thanks to his niece, Deb Williams, Manor Care Inc., Genesis Medical Center East Campus Nursing Staff and Social Services, Dr. Mikka M. Appel, Dr. Virginia A. Barber and Generations Area Agency on Ageing, for their special care and friendship to John.
