PITTSFIELD, Mass. — William Robert Spellman, 53, of Pittsfield, Mass., passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. William died on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at the Hillcrest Commons Rehab Center in Pittsfield, Mass.
He was cremated and no immediate services are planned.
Memorials in William’s name may be sent to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League or to the Newton Public Library.
William was the son of William A. and Patricia (Aller) Spellman. He was born on March 8, 1955, in Des Moines. He attended Newton schools and DMACC in Ankeny. He was an auto mechanic in Des Moines for many years. Bill was an artist, and he liked to fish and was a voracious reader. He enjoyed computers, music and loved animals.
Bill is survived by his companion, Rosie Aldrich of Pittsfield, Mass.; his mother, Patricia of Newton; two sisters, Sue (Darrell) Ely of Newton and Sharil (Barri) Van Note of Des Moines; a daughter, Jeanine and two grandchildren of Cassville, Wis.; an uncle, Robert (Susan) Aller of Pleasant Hill; an aunt, Carol Saunders of San Diego, Calif.; three cousins; two nieces, Shawna (Eric) Forst of Newton and Amy (Colin) Van Drimmelen of LeGrand; and one great-niece, Emmalin Forst.
Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents; an uncle, John Saunders; a cousin, Bill Saunders; and his father in 2005.
