Edward P. Walsh of Newton passed away Nov. 8, 2008, at Heritage Manor in Newton.
Ed was born May 23, 1920, in Lucas County to Matthew J. and Kathryn (Flattery) Walsh. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1939. He served in World War II in the Navy on the U.S.S. Casablanca from 1942 to 1945.
Ed graduated from Iowa State University in 1949, with a degree in electric engineering.
He worked for Iowa Southern Utilities in Centerville from 1949 to 1982. He was the manger of engineering and vice president at the time of his retirement.
He married Donna C. Dahrney on Feb. 15, 1951. They had two daughters.
In 1978, they moved to their farm in Monroe County and lived there until moving to Newton in 2006. Ed was an avid hunter, horseshoe pitcher and loved the farm and his cows.
Ed was a Catholic all his life and was a member of St. Patrick’s in Melrose and Sacred Heart in Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Matt and Gene.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; two daughters, Jane C. (Don) Enwright of Seattle, Wash., and Patience (Bob) Dorr of Johnston; two sisters, Mary Gerl of Green Bay, Wis., and Helene Walsh of Des Moines; his three grandchildren, Matt Dorr and Rory and Caitlin Enwright; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service.
Memorials to St. Patrick’s, Sacred Heart or Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the church on the day of the service.
