KELLOGG — Arthur J. Tratchel, 79, of Rock Creek West, rural Kellogg, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at his home.
A private family burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery with the Rev. DeWayne Anderson of First Assembly of God Church officiating. Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton is handling arrangements, and memorials may be left in Arthur’s name at the funeral home.
The son of Clarence and Alma E. (Porter) Tratchel, Arthur was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Newton. He grew up in Newton and was a 1948 graduate of the Newton Senior High School. He worked as an upholsterer. Arthur owned Tratchel’s Upholstery in Newton and also operated an upholstery shop in Grove, Okla., for 20 years.
Arthur served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and he went to Alaska in 1948 to help build the Alaskan railroad. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, looking at cars, dogs and spending time with kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
Survivors include two sons, John (Inez) Tratchel of Kellogg and Miles (Jeanie) Tratchel of Newton; one daughter, Selena J. (David) Osequeda of Yutan, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Jasper (Amy), Samantha N., Lucas, Covey, Ian, Samantha A., Makaela, Dustin and Selena E.; great-grandchildren, Rhianon, Aislyn and Gavin; and a brother: Lou Wheeler of Niles, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gene and Floyd Wheeler; and three sisters, Bonnie Bell Wheeler, Betty Jean Wheeler and Gertrude Seimans.
