FLORENCE VARNER

Mrs. Fred Vance (Florence Mae) Varner, 102, of Embassy Manor, a longtime resident of Newton, died early today, Feb. 6, at the Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Reese Funeral Chapel.

Rev. Harold Schutte, pastor of the Assembly of God, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Palo Alto Cemetery.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions to the Embassy Manor Craft Department or the organization of the donor's choice will be accepted.

Survivors are a daughter, Eula Varner of Des Moines; two step-daughters, Thelma Martin of Des Moines and Genevie Larrison of Newton; three step-sons, Lyle of Covina, Calif., Dean of Fort Myers, Fla., and Harold of Mannford, Okla.

Also surviving are 15 step-grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Schwartz of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, parents, a sister, four brothers, a step-son, a daughter and three step-grandchildren.

Mrs. Varner was a member of the Newton Assembly of God, in which she had been an active worker until her health prevented her participation and was a 52-year member of the Rebekah Lodge.

The daughter of Hiram and Sidney Black Williams, she was born May 7, 1881 in Reasnor.

She was married Dec. 22, 1922 in Newton.
