Clara “Genevieve” Wood, 92, of Newton, formerly of the Millard, Mo. area, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, Mo., with a one hour visitation just prior to service time. The Rev. Elmer McCully will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Price Cemetery, near Winigan.

Clara “Genevieve” Wood, 92, of Newton, Iowa, formerly of the Millard, Missouri, community, passed away Saturday (September 20, 2008) at the Skiff Hospital in Newton, Iowa.
The daughter of Charles and Ada (Prough) Bishop, she was born August 21, 1916 in New Boston, Missouri. On February 28, 1935 in Kirksville, Missouri, Genevieve was united in marriage to Ernest Earl Wood who preceded her in death on June 11, 1996.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters and one granddaughter, Bambi Lynn Wood.
Genevieve is survived by one daughter, Reverend Dolores Clem of Phoenix, AZ; two sons and daughters-in-law, Everett and Deanna Wood of Newton, IA and Keith and Karen Wood of Reasnor, IA; one brother, Ivan Bishop of Glenwood Springs, CO; two sisters, Elizabeth Pfieffer of Newton, IA and Lucille Stewart of Albuquerque, NM; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Genevieve lived most of her life in Macon and Adair counties and received her education in the Price rural school and the Gifford High School. She was employed several years in housekeeping at Grim Smith Hospital before going to LaPlata, Missouri, where she worked at Hills Turkey Processing Plant two years. For a number of years, Genevieve then work as a waitress at several restaurant’s in the Macon area. She was last employed for McGraw Edison Company in Macon, until retiring in 1978. For a number of years, she also raised chickens that were purchased by area grocery stores.
Genevieve will always be remembered by her family for her devotion to them, for the great times that were spent together and for the wonderful meals she prepared for them, for she was a fantastic cook.
Genevieve was a very devoted member of the LaPlata Baptist Church of LaPlata, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (September 23, 2008) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, Missouri, with one hour of visitation held before service time. The Reverend Elmer McCully will officiate the service and music selections, “How Great Thou Art” and “Precious Memories” will be provided by Twila Jones who will be accompanied by Dianthe Cable, organist. Interment will follow the service at Price Cemetery, near Winigan.
Casket bearers will be Ernest Wood, Keith Wood, Mike Wood, Shannon Wood, Monty Wood and Tony Bean. Honorary bearers will be Steve Clem and Mark Clem.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Genevieve may be made to the LaPlata Baptist Church. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
