NORWALK — Gladys Maxine Briggs, 87, formerly of Lynnville died on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, in Norwalk. A graveside memorial service will be held at the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Killduff, on Friday, Sept. 19, beginning at 1 p.m. Following the graveside service, the family will gather at the Church of Christ in Lynnville for a time of fellowship. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of the arrangements.
G. Maxine Briggs was born in Jasper County to J.B. and Nellie Scarbrough on Jan. 5, 1921. She was the ninth of 10 children. Maxine married Charles Richard (Dick) Briggs on July 4, 1946, in Troy, Kan. Born to this union were four children; Jackie (Nels) Person of Grapeview, Wash., Gary (Sonja) Briggs of Lynnville, Char (John) Stalzer of Grinnell and Nella (Russell) Saunders of Des Moines. Maxine was also blessed with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed gardening, canning and baking cinnamon rolls for the restaurant. Maxine was rather well known in the Lynnville area for her cinnamon rolls, lime pickles and popcorn balls.
She is survived by her children; a sister, Mardelle Minear of Des Moines; and a brother-in-law, Buss of Lynnville.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick and eight of her siblings.
