Funeral services for Earl F. Wolff, 76, of 825 S. 2nd Ave. W., a resident of Newton since 1958, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Bill Adams, associate pastor of the Community Heights Alliance Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon today. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He died Tuesday evening at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines of heart failure.

Survivors are his wife, Velda F.; two brothers, Harvey of Emmetsburg and Arlo of Spencer; and two sisters, Irene Philp of Loup City, Neb., and Inez Gawoe of Jefferson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter in infancy, two brothers, Leonard and Carl, and a sister, Pearl Schwardt.

Mr. Wolff, who was baptized in the Lutheran Church Feb. 4, 1923, was a life member of the Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655 and American Legion Post 111.

Mr. Wolff, an Army veteran of World War II, during which he served in Japan and the Philippines, had worked at the State Department for Correction at Riverview Release Center, south of Newton, from 1958 until retiring Jan. 31, 1980.

The son of Herman and Minnie Bahls Wolff, he was born April 6, 1916 in Ayrshire and was graduated from Ayrshire High School.

He was married to Velda F. Lane July 8, 1943 in South Sioux City, Neb.

Mr. Wolff lived in Clay County in northwest Iowa before moving to Des Moines and from Des Moines to Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1992
