Dr. L. H. Koelling

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Dr. Lloyd Harlan Koelling, 76, of Bentonville, Ark., a physician and surgeon in Newton from 1947 until 1972, died Tuesday, July 5, at a Bentonville nursing home.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Memorials to the First United Methodist Church at 201 N. W. 2nd St., Bentonville, Ark. 72712 or the University of Kansas Medical School, 39th and Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, Kan., 66160-7400, will be accepted.

Survivors are a son, Ronald G. of Bella Vista, Ark.; a daughter, Sue Ann Mohr of Lawrence, Kan.; a brother, George of Hutchinson, Kan.; and four granddaughters.

Dr. Koelling, who had retired from private practice and as chief of staff of the Arizona Institure of Medical Hypno-Analysis, was a former member of the Newton Kiwanis Club.

He served as a Navy flight surgeon on the U.S.S. Hancock in the Pacific during World War II.

The son of Dr. Walter John and Nellie B. Johnson Koelling, he was born April 15, 1918 in Hutchinson, Kan., and attended Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Junior College.

He was graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School in Kansas City, Kan., in 1943. While at the university, he was on the university's swim and dive team and was a member of the K Club.

Dr. Koelling moved to the Bentonville area in December, 1990 from Scottsdale, Ariz. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1994
