Gertrude Klyn

Gertrude "Susie" Van Arkel Klyn, 74, of 510 E. 17th St. N., a resident of Newton for a short time and a longtime former resident of Killduff, died Thursday, April 26, at Skiff Medical Center of congestive heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Reese Chapel.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Lung Association will be accepted.

Survivors are her husband, William J.; a son, Larry Klyn of West Des Moines; three grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy (Mrs. Robert) Sherratt of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Mrs. Klyn, a retired bookkeeper, had lived in Killduff for many years and for 25 years in Le Grand, prior to moving to Newton.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arie Van Arkel, she was born Dec. 24, 1915 in Sully and attended Sully schools.

She was married to William J. Klyn may 27, 1939 in Sully. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, April 1990
