COLFAX - Lela Pearl Barbee Bucklin, 83, of Colfax, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died this morning, May 11, at Des Moines General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The Rev. Tom Carpe, pastor of the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax, will conduct services.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Thursday.

Survivors are a son, Raymond Ralph of California; a daughter, Patricia Ann (Mrs. James) Williams of Colfax; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Elma Bishop of Colfax.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ralph R., two brothers and a granddaughter.

Mrs. Bucklin was a member of the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ.

The daughter of Ray and Blanche Kern Barbee, she was born Sept. 7, 1911 and was a 1930 graduate of Baxter Community High School.

She attended Des Moines Business College for two years.

She was married to Ralph R. Bucklin Sept. 14, 1935 in Newton.

A resident of Colfax for the past 20 years, she also had resided in the Baxter and Ira areas. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, May 1994
