Services Held for Former Resident

Funeral services for Mrs. Earl (Bessie C.) Lake, 71, of Des Moines, a former resident of Newton, were held this week at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines.

Burial was in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Mrs. Lake is survived by a son, Glenn Whitmore, of Pacific Junction, Calif.; a grandson, Michael Whitmore, of Pacific Junction; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Bruce and Mrs. William Pratt, both of Des Moines; two half-sisters, Mrs. Esther Franklin of Des Moines and Mrs. Thelma Summers of Rodeo, Calif.; and a half-brother, Charley Erwin of Chicago, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, Jack Whitmore.

The daughter of Charley and Grace Drew Ervin, she was born in Newton and attended Newton schools.

She had resided in Des Moines for the past 45 years. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 1967
