FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - E. Margaret "Tootie" White Smith, 65, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., a former resident of Newton, died Thursday, Aug. 5, of a brain aneurysm.

Kracer Funeral Home in Fort Lauderdale handled arrangements.

Survivors are a daughter, Sandy Smith of Fort Lauderdale; two brothers, Denver White and Richard White, both of Des Moines; a sister, Edith (Mrs. Ernest) Jones of Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon, her parents, three brothers, Charles White and Joseph "Pode" White and Grover White, in infancy, and two sisters, Ave (Mrs. Gene) Widen and Velma (Mrs. Arthur) Graham.

The daughter of Joseph and Ada Graham White, she was born Feb. 2, 1928 in Altoona and attended Newton schools.

She was married to Eldon J. Smith March 23, 1946 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August 1993
