Marjorie Porter, 79, of Monroe died of a heart ailment Friday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home, with burial at Silent City Cemetery.

Mrs. Porter was born in Monroe and had lived in Des Moines most of her life, returning to Monroe 15 years ago. She was a retired clerk for Meredith Corp. and had also worked at the Des Moines Club.

Survivors include her husband, Roy; two stepsons, John of Des Moines and Robert of Grand Island, Neb.; and four step-grandchildren.

Friends may call after noon today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe Emergency Unit. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995

MONROE - Funeral services for Marjorie L. Hevlin Porter, 79, a resident of Monroe for 15 years, were held today, Jan. 30, at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe.

Dr. Thomas N. Bass conducted services.

Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Memorials to the Monroe Emergency Unit will be accepted.

She died Friday at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Survivors are her husband, Roy; two step-sons and step-daughters-in-law, John and Lee Ann Porter of Des Moines and Robert and Karen Porter of Grand Island, Neb.; and four step-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a niece, Beverly Breen of Des Moines and a great-niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Helen Smith.

Mrs. Porter had been employed as a clerk at Meredith Publishing Co., of Des Moines and later was employed by the Des Moines Club.

The daughter of Glover Cleveland "Cleve" and Minnie Thorn Hevlin, she was born April 14, 1915 near Monroe.

She was married to Roy Porter Sept. 3, 1963 in Omaha, Neb.

Mrs. Porter, who lived in Des Moines for many years, resided in Mystic for five years prior to coming to Monroe. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995
